Study Regulations
Undergraduate Studies
Duration and Academic Year
Undergraduate studies in the Department of Mathematics last four (4) years, or equivalently, eight (8) semesters. The academic year begins on September 1st and ends on August 31st of the following year. Each academic year is divided into two teaching semesters: fall and spring. Each semester consists of 13 weeks of teaching and 3 weeks of examinations.
The detailed academic calendar for the current year, including semester start and end dates and holidays, can be found here.
Course lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions are held on weekdays, Monday to Friday, according to the course timetable announced by the Secretariat (see timetable). Attendance is strongly recommended, though not mandatory. A teaching hour is defined as the first 45 minutes of each class. Classes start 15 minutes after the listed timetable. For example, a class scheduled 09:00–10:00 will be held 09:15–10:00.

The undergraduate program schedules four (4) to five (5) courses per semester, corresponding to 20–26 teaching hours per week, including tutorials and/or labs. Each semester contains 30 of the total 240 ECTS required for graduation. While the sequence of courses is indicative, students are free to adjust it. However, significant deviations from the recommended curriculum are not advised. Advanced semester content assumes knowledge from previous semesters.

At the beginning of each semester, within the deadline announced by the Secretariat, all undergraduate students must renew their registration for the semester they are currently enrolled. Registration is completed electronically via the Department's online services (e-Secretariat).
Students who do not submit a Registration Renewal cannot receive a Certificate of Enrollment or declare courses for that semester.
Before declaring courses in the 4th semester, students must select the study track they intend to follow. This selection is indicative and not binding. If a student changes their mind later, they may submit a request in their final semester to the Department Assembly to modify their initial track selection.
Attention
After the initial track selection, the e-Secretariat optimizes course selections for each student based on this information. Any subsequent track change requires the student to adjust their course plan to meet the requirements of the new track.
Each semester, students must submit their course declarations. For students admitted from 2000-01 onward, declarations are submitted electronically within deadlines announced by the Secretariat. Declarations apply only to the current semester.
Students may include failed courses from previous semesters in their declaration, provided they are offered in the same term. Most core courses are divided into smaller groups with equal student distribution, consistent learning goals, and uniform content coverage.

The Department recommends following the suggested chronological course sequence, which supports learning, mastering complex knowledge, and achieving better grades. Students may choose a different order if desired.
Students receive free textbooks for each course only upon first declaration. The number of textbooks is equal to the number of courses required for degree completion (36). Textbook declaration is done electronically via the Ministry of Education website Eudoxus. The site includes information on textbooks selected by the Department of Mathematics for all offered courses. Students declare textbooks within deadlines set by the Ministry (announced each semester by the Secretariat).
Assessment methods are determined by the course instructor, primarily based on final written exams. Exams are held at the end of each semester (January/February and June). Students who fail or miss exams may retake them in September. Exam results are announced within 20 days and graded on a 0–10 scale in whole or half points. The minimum passing grade is 5. Students failing elective courses may retake or replace them with other electives.
No student may attend an exam without prior course declaration for the semester or with a different instructor than assigned.

Open ScheduleThe University of Patras Senate has approved a regulation allowing students to re-examine core courses of the current semester to improve their grades. This does not apply to elective courses or core courses from previous semesters. Students wishing to improve their grade must submit a request to the Department Secretariat within announced dates for September re-examinations.
During Exams
Undergraduate students must not copy, assist, or seek help from peers and may only use allowed materials. Mobile phones and electronic devices are prohibited in exam rooms.
During Assignments
Students must not commit plagiarism, work collaboratively unless allowed, or delegate their assignments to others.
Copying, Unauthorized Collaboration, and Plagiarism
The Department treats cases of copying, unauthorized collaboration, and plagiarism very seriously. Penalties apply according to the Department, University Regulations, and applicable law in case of any violation.
