Diploma Supplement

Diploma Supplement

An Internationally Recognized and Comparable Qualification

The Diploma Supplement is a personal document issued to graduates of higher education institutions together with their diploma or degree certificate.

What Is the Diploma Supplement?

The Diploma Supplement is a personal document issued to graduates of higher education institutions together with their diploma or degree certificate. It does not replace the degree itself or the academic transcript, nor does it constitute an automatic system guaranteeing recognition of the qualification.

It is a document that provides additional information about the awarded degree and accurately describes the knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired by the graduate. In this way, the Diploma Supplement makes the qualification more recognizable, understandable, and comparable internationally, while also documenting the graduate’s academic pathway and achievements throughout their studies.

Holding a Diploma Supplement May Facilitate Access

01

to foreign universities for the continuation of studies at a higher academic level,

02

to the international labor market, as the information contained in the document can be easily understood by employers and organizations outside national borders.

Legal Framework

The Diploma Supplement was developed by UNESCO and the Council of Europe, while its implementation was adopted in 2004 by the European Parliament (Decision 2241/2004 of the European Parliament and the Council concerning a single Community framework for the transparency of qualifications and competences).

Issuance by the Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics issues a Diploma Supplement to all graduates admitted in the academic year 2015–2016 and thereafter. It is issued automatically by the Secretariat, free of charge, in both Greek and English. (Its date of issue may coincide with or follow the date of award of the degree, but it cannot precede it.)
